I love you because I do not know enough not to;
like the lemmings that leap off cliffs,
so am I oblivious to the places
this will lead.

I love you because you are irresistible,
as inevitable and inescapable as Death himself,
and although you are inaccessible, I have inadvertently
fallen inarguably, irrevocably innamorato.

I love you as dancers love to dance,
as actors love to act, as lovers love to love-
because I do not know what I would do if I didn't.

I love you because you help me find words
when there are none, because you hold me tightly
as I spin out of control, because you are you.

Author's Comments

This series of sonnets was inspired by Pablo Neruda's Cien sonetos de amor, all of which are written in this fourteen line format.

You capture the unavoidable way love finds its way into your life quite nicely. :)

Thank you! I have found it rather impossible to escape. :)

If you need some poetry in your life I can read you Neruda.

I am afraid that once I get to Heaven, God will sneeze and I won't know what to say.

God made men first. Then he had a better idea!

I can tell that your poetry has improved between the last time you posted a poem and now. Great job! :)

I think it's because of Pablo Neruda. That man was magic, and I think it rubbed off a little. ;)
